Accessible Travel Options

​​​Accessible seats and spaces, including seats with space for assistance animals are available on all services. However there is limited accessible seating, and accessible spaces are not available in every carriage.

There are two classes of travel available, Gold Class and Heritage Class. The Gold Class experience is only available on the 9.30am departure from Cairns railway station, the 9.55am departure from Freshwater railway station ​and the 3.30pm departure from Kuranda railway station. Accessible seats, spaces and carer seats​

Accessible travel options are available for customers wishing to book the Gold Class experience and those seeking the Heritage Class fare (this includes their carers).

​Gold Class

Gold Class is only available on the second train service of the day which departs Cairns railway station at 9.30am or Freshwater railway station at 9.55am. Food and Beverage service commences after the train departs Freshwater railway station. The return journey in Gold Class departs Kuranda railway station at 3.30pm.

There is one carriage with accessible facilities, with individual seating in lounge style chairs, provided on all services. Customers with disability who require the use of the carriage with accessible facilities on the 9.30am departure from Cairns railway station or 9.55am departure from Freshwater railway station and the 3.30pm departure from Kuranda railway station will have the option to pay the Gold Class or Heritage Class fare (this includes their carers), depending on which experience they prefer.

Note: The Heritage Class fare does not include the Gold Class experience (morning or afternoon tea and beverages). If you would like the Gold Class experience, you will need to pay the Gold Class fare, to learn more please refer to the Classes of travel page.

​Heritage Class

There are no accessible seats, spaces or facilities for customers travelling with mobility devices in our standard Heritage carriages due to their heritage bench seat configuration. A carriage with accessible facilities, with individual seating in lounge style chairs, is provided on all services.​​

  • On the 8.30am departure from Cairns railway station, 8.55am departure from Freshwater railway station and the 2.00pm departure from Kuranda railway station, the service only provides a Heritage Class experience, so the carriage with accessible facilities is priced at the Heritage Class rate.
  • On the 9.30am departure from Cairns railway station, 9.55am departure from Freshwater railway station and the 3.30pm departure from Kuranda railway station, the service provides both a Heritage Class and Gold Class experience. There is only one carriage with accessible facilities on each departure which offers both the Gold Class and Heritage Class fares, based on the experience selected.

Travelling with an assistance animal
Please advise us when booking if you are travelling with a trained and approved assistance animal. We will arrange for suitable seating in either Heritage or Gold Class that provides floor space to the side to comfortably accommodate an assistance animal.
